Unfortunately, The Quantico
Unfortunately, The Quantico Marine Corps Flying Club closed its doors for good on 09/15/2007 after 45 years of service. In 2007, the MCAF Quantico Commanding Officer determined that the flying club's operation was not compatible with military flight operations. The club was unable to maintain ops without USMC sponsorship and was disbanded.
Thousands of service members and civilian pilots received primary and advanced ratings at this facility. Additionally, local Marine Corp air traffic controllers benefited from the proficiency gained by directing civilian aircraft through their Class D airspace.
That is really unfortunate.
That is really unfortunate. That was a great flying club that I got my ppl license at and enjoyed many hours in their aircraft. I really hope the commander had a good reason for making that determination. What a great way to get people involved in aviation. Military flying clubs all across the country are suffering a similar fate unfortunately
